Most surrogacy agencies ask intended parents to wire tens of thousands of dollars into an account the agency controls. That money is supposed to pay surrogates, clinics, attorneys, and other providers over the course of a 12 to 18-month journey.
The problem is structural: when an agency holds client funds in a house account, there is no independent check on how that money moves. Families have no real-time visibility. Disbursements require no outside authorization. And if the agency closes, there is often no segregated fund to return.

Federal prosecutors indicted the founders of Surro Connections on wire fraud and money laundering charges after the agency collapsed in 2026. Authorities allege the founders misappropriated over $1.1 million in client funds, spending it on personal expenses including luxury watches and gambling. Intended parents and surrogates were left without the money they had transferred in good faith.

An independent escrow account is held and managed by a third party with no financial relationship to your agency. The escrow administrator does not benefit from your journey proceeding or from your money moving in any particular direction. Their job is to protect the funds and disburse them only when the conditions you agreed to have been met.
Every disbursement requires documented authorization — an invoice, a milestone confirmation, or another agreed trigger. The agency cannot simply request a transfer. Neither can any single party. The paper trail exists from the first dollar to the last.
If the agency closes, your funds are in an account that belongs to your journey, not to the agency's operating budget. They can be frozen, returned, or redirected to your new provider without litigation.

Yes. FamilyVale Escrow is agency-agnostic. You bring it to your journey the same way you bring your own attorney — independently. Most reputable agencies will work with an independent escrow service; an agency that refuses should be a significant red flag.
We will provide documentation and a simple onboarding process that agencies can integrate into their contracts. In our experience, agencies that prioritize client protection welcome independent escrow. Agencies that resist it warrant scrutiny.
Pricing is still being finalized. Our goal is to keep the fee modest relative to the total journey cost — the protection is worth far more than the fee. Waitlist members will have input on pricing before we launch.
